What ARE those two things in my house? - 2004-02-26
Tuesday, 24th, Day Four...

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness...

Today was a very interesting day!

You see, the morning started with the same thing as yesterday... a nice breakfast with Pa, and a walk, and then... he went off to that 'work' place... only this time, Dad didn't get out of bed- Pa just... LEFT! I went back to sleep too- it was a quiet morning.

Dad woke up then, and came and let me out again- and I spent the day with him. He took me for my afternoon walk, and we played... and he fed me yummy bits of his lunch at lunchtime... and then when it got evening, he took me outside again, and into the CAR! (I think these humans drive too much. I'm not liking the car as much as I did at first, because you never know... they might LEAVE me someplace! augh! I wouldn't want THAT!)

We went to that same crazy place- where the doors open all by themselves!! Then Dad went inside... and more people wanted to come out and MEET me... and one of them gave me a RAWHIDE bone! I was scared, to be honest. I snuck all the way into the far side of the seat, and ducked down. No one could figure out why I'm such a scared dog when it comes to that- because I am very friendly on walks... but you want to know what I am thinking? I'm thinking how everytime they 'introduce' me to someone... it COULD be the same kind of thing as when my rescue people 'introduced' me to THEM! I don't want to be handed around! I am barely used to my NEW people! So as soon as people stop trying to make me like them, I suddenly like them very much!

Well, this time, we went home again afterwards- and I was very happy!

Today Dad installed what he called the kitty-safe gate... he says it is to protect those two little feline thingies who share the house, from ME! I don't eat kitties! I have a very discriminating palate, thank you very much!

But still. I stare at them, when they stare at ME... and They don't know what I am. They never saw a DOG before- and they call me 'the big stinky thing in the living room'. They need to learn my NAME. I know THEIR names! (thing one and thing two, right? hrmf! See?)

So tonight I have spent a lot of time staring at the kitties... especially the one they call Madame Leota. They're both mostly black with a little white on paws and chins, but Leota has a little MORE white than the other one, and a RED colored collar... and she is HEAD BOSS KITTY! (Well, that's what SHE says, anyway!) I don't know. I tried to have a staring match with her tonight, and Pa finally drug me away after about ten or fifteen minutes. She never even BLINKED! Wow... but when Pa drug me away, I discovered not only were him and Dad making fun of how intently I was staring, but Pa had stacked some of my play rings on my tail.

(insert pic here)

I am SO going to pay him back for that... Yah. You Betcha I AM...

Hrmf.

So anyway, the other thing is a little skinnier and more slinky than Madame Leota- and they call her Diva, or DeeDee, or Divalicious, depending on her mood... or theirs... or something! bah. She wears a PURPLE collar, and has only a little white on her feets and chinny-chin-chin... so I can tell them apart pretty good...

The thing is... they put their chins on the carpet, and their butts in the air... and STARE at me. That's puppy for 'can we play' and alpha dog for 'i'm bigger than you' all mixed together! Then, sometimes, they RUN!

I can't help that I want to chase them. They're driving me INSANE with their kitty-mixed-messages!

That, apparently, is the purpose of the kitty-safe-gate... I can't go over or under it very easily, but THEY can... so if we get into a chase, they can VROOM under the gate, and to the safety of the kitty-tree in the bedroom. And I won't STOMP on them in a moment of play... because I am a BIG girl, you know. I would prolly squish them if I put my paw on them mid-chase...

Dad says we'll see how this goes- because I still don't quite know how my life will be... everything is new to me! Even doors are scary, right now. I don't know for SURE if these people will keep me... and I am trying very hard to make them happy... so they DO keep me! If learning not to chase the kitties is a way to make them keep me, then you BET I will! I'm a good girl, I am. A very good girl!
