| Day 397: Catching Up! OH my GOODNESS!! I haven't made entries into my Diary, because Dad has been feeling under the weather. (what does that mean? He says it all the time, when he's sick, but aren't peoples ALWAYS under the weather? Weather happens way way up in the sky, for goodness sake...) Tonight, Dad is going to share some 'catch up posts. parts of posts he started to make, but then didn't feel good enough to finish. But first, here: Happy Berfa Day to me! Happy Berfa Day to me! Happy BERFA Day, Happy BERFA Day! Happy Berfa Day to meeeeeee! I love that song. I love this one even better- it goes to the tune of the happyu birthday song from the Bear in the Big Blue House: Happy happy happy happy Berfa day, berfa day. Happy happy happy happy Berfa day, Berfa Day! Happy happy happy happy happy happy happy happy Happy! Berfa Day! Happy happy Berfa Day! Happy happy Berfa Day to MEEEEEEEeee! Yay!! I have been with my new family OVER a year!! Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!! I'm pretty happy, even if there have been some interesting things happening lately. (and by interesting, I mean 'very strange'.) For one thing, I got a nice treat and a new toy for my Berfa Day! YAY! Then they took me to a great place- it was called the Munic-ipal Spray and New-furs clinic. I guess that's where you go to get sprayed with new fur smells or something. I'd like that! A nice lady came out, and gave me a shot. I was all, ooooooh mello0oooow. Then they gave me another shot, and I was ooooooh... even MORE mellow! Then they asked Dad, if they could put me on a special dog-lift... it was like one of those fork lifts you see in a grochery store, only a little smaller. for BIG girls like I am. Dad said, "Certainly!" and even stoned, he only had to ask me to step up, turn around, sit, and then lay down, RIGHT where they wanted me. They were full of OOoohs and Aaaaahs. I was full of psychedelic dreams of coming home with that new-fur smell. They put a plastic cone on my nose, that smelled funny, and I said 'hum....' and then I don't remember nuffin, till I woked up again. It turns out, my old owners didn't lie- I had a C-section, where they took away my puppies and spayed me. The vets didn't have to cut me open though, to find out. Just shave my tummy clean, and feel around while I was all boneless asleep, and check me out with something called a 'probe'. I'm glad I was asleep, because I don't know what a probe is, but... well. Dad called, and was nervous about how I was doing, and they said, "Wonderful!! she's been wandering around the whole office and laying by the desk clerk all afternoon!" They told Dad how SWEET and wonderful I was, and I think Dad kind of cried, in a happy way- because not all Rotties are so GOOD... and even I have my days when I don't like strangers touching me... but Dad was afraid that I was going to think he /abandoned/ me... I did not! My Dad would never abandon me like that! hrmf. Besides. They had cookies. *drool* So I have been learning all KINDS of fun new things, and Dad's mom and dad (who'd have thought? I wonder what they are like? I heard they have two chinese crested dogs as their pets!!) sent me a VERY nice present. It's just like my "Service Dog" cape (which is a lovely handicapped blue and has my patches on it and all) but it's GREEN... and the patches say 'in training'. It might seem kind of strange, to have a dog who is already trained wear a cape that says 'in training' but this is the thing: I know things to do AT HOME... not everything about going all around town. Like... I have never been inside a restraunt, or a movie theatre, or a toy store (for people!) ... Dad doesn't take me in there, because he is afraid if they see my cape and I make a mistake, they will say that all Service Dogs are menaces, or not properly trained! ...so this new cape will let me /train/ for those kinds of public access... and people will know it is my first time, or close to it! They can also say 'no way! I don't want you training a dog in here!' but usually people don't do that. They're usually very nice. I'm looking forward to my first movie!! ...but I can't go this weekend. (sigh) I's Con-tage-i-ous. The spray and new fur clinic is next to the pound, and they do all the pound dogs... and I was out there all day. Even though I have ALL my vaccinations... the 'kennel cough' vaccination is like the human flu shot. Sometimes, it doesn't work against ALL strains of kennel cough. I got one it didn't cover. :( I'm running around coughing and hacking... and if I was near other dogs- or even other peoples who HAVE dogs... I could make their dogs VERY sick!! I'm taking my medicine like a good girl, (especially because Pa keeps hiding it in tater tots or cheeeeese!) but it will be a while, before I get better. It's a good thing I have insurence. A VERY good thing. Untill next time, (which will be sooner, I promise!) Big Bertha
